"They're filthy half-breeds!" He snarled, aiming to shove her away. "As are you. Be grateful you're not on the list." He scowled darkly at her. "I take it you don't want to save two of them? We can just kill them all..." He threatened, narrowing his eyes. "And I am not your uncle." He growled, menecing. Behind him, Hemitite tried to struggle closer, whimpering softly. For one thing, he wanted Mystic to know how much he didn't want this happening. He didn't want to betray what thin strand of relationship they'd established.

Mystic could hear snarling outside, most likely coming from her pack as they returned to the dens. And behind her, her pups were squealing pitifully. How could she just CHOOSE two? Mystic stood still between Jasper and her pups. She looked at Hemitite. Saw him whimpering. She knew he didn't want this. How cruel could he be? No one could enjoy the killing of five completely innocent pups. Well...anyone aside from Bleaknight. Desperate, Mystic mouthed the word 'father.' Injured or not, could he not do SOMETHING? Something to distract Jasper and Bleaknight just long enough for her to get her pups away?
Mystic didn't speak. She turned to her pups, making it look like she was trying to choose. Mystic was making a decision. Whether or not she should try to fight. Fight for herself, her pups, and the rest of her kin. Fight, die, and in turn all of her pups would die. Or choose two and run. Knowing that she'd abandoned the other five to their deaths. Her legs were trembling from the weight of the decision. Seven pairs of innocent eyes stared back at her.
"Mama, what's happening?"
"Who's that wolf?"
Mystic was still listing the consequences. The first choice...fight and die. That would leave Romeo heartbroken, her pack with no 'Alpha', and all of her pups would die. But no one could say she didn't try to save her pups, could they? The second choice...two lived. Greenwood would still have their 'Alpha.'
Mystic let out a whine, which meant she knew what she had to do. She closed her eyes and swiped her paw through the seven pups. She felt two little bodies hit her paw. Without waiting to see who they were, Mystic grabbed one by the scruff and forced the other towards the entrance of the den with her paw. She hesititated for another moment, praying for a miracle.

Hemitite watched her, ears back tight. The hardest decision she would ever make, condemning five of her own flesh and blood to brutal deaths.... the one word she enclosed to him... and her final choice as she chose two and hurried out. He ducked his head. He wished he could explain to her why he couldn't help. Why he could do nothing. But after a moment, he leaned ever so slightly to nudge her reassurringly... and lunged forward against his brother just as Jasper was about to grab one of the pups. He got a hold of his older brothers snout, shoving the other with all his weight against the wall of the den, the two going down in a snarling pile of fur. He was giving her her chance - and he hoped she took advantage of it.

Myst set the pup in her mouth down. Starblood, she saw. And the other one was Dandre. She looked at her terrified pups in the den. "RUN! RUN AS FAST YOU CAN!"
Juliet and Magic let out snarls and they rushed into the fray to help their siblings. Magic chose the direct route and lunged at Bleaknight. If he could only distract him for those few precious moments...Juliet, meanwhile, went to her mother's side. She stood in front of the den entrance in case Magic failed with Bleaknight or Hemitite let go of his hold on Jasper. She counted as the pups went through her legs and went bounding towards the forest. Juliet picked up Dandre while Myst grabbed Starblood once more.

Just as victory seemed possible, the horde of twenty Bleaknight had promised rushed in, shadowy black figures with countless scars, all snarling as they surrounded the den. Bleaknight didn't move when Magic attacked, simply glaring back at the yearling. Magic was big, but under the thick black fur, Bleaknight's entire body was one collective grouping of scars. He could ignore the relatively small threat. But abruptly, a grin split his muzzle and the massive, heavy wolf rolled onto his back, aiming to crush Magic beneath him.
Meanwhile, five of the nine head wolves at the head of the reinforcements headed for Juliet, the male at the head licking his lips slowly. The other four charged for the pups that had seemingly escaped. And the eleven others moved slowly towards Mystic. Oh my.

Magic let out a yelp and jumped back. He let out a snarl, but was quickly preoccupied by the reinforcements. Magic let out a howl, staring at his mother and Juliet and his brothers and sisters.
Mystic dashed, Starblood still firmly clenched in her jaws. She could only pray her other pups could keep up. There was no fighting now; only retreat. Juliet took off after her, Dandre in her jaws. She heard the squealing of her brothers and sisters...
"MAMA!" Dove, Rosedew, and Lilyfrost were the ones that seemed to have the best chance of reaching the safety of the forest due to their build. The others were falling behind.

Jasper caught up with them. With a single leap, he tackled the three, grabbing Dove by the neck and tossing the pup into a tree hard. The other two were quickly killed in equally silencing manners. The others would never be heard from again. But one that did follow was Hemitite. He limped after Mystic, trying to keep up. He was probably the main reason she was so fast, but with one paw mutilated, it was hard to keep up. "Myst..." He sighed, pausing as he tried to catch his breath. If he didn't catch up, his brother would catch up to him. And he might not be able to survive it if he did. Jasper was pretty pissed. But would Mystic be even more upset...?

Magic let out an anguished cry as his siblings were murdered. Then he say Hemitite limping after his mother and sister. He'd tried to help them. Magic ran to him to help him along and protect him, should Jasper attack his own brother. "Come on...if I'm you're kin, you can go faster than this! C'mon! You've got three useful paws!" Magic suddenly felt afraid for this wolf. This wolf he considered and enemy. He'd fought for Magic's siblings and for his mother. Hemitite had fought for their family.
Hemitite had fought for his family.

Hemmy glanced up at him, but growled, not really comfortable with the help. But he forced himself forward, tail tucked. He wanted to help. It was weird, but he had to agree with it for now. "...thanks." He reluctantly murmured, drastically uncomfortable.

"Just hurry up." Magic replied as they reached the safety of the trees. His mother and Juliet were long gone. From the scent trail, however, he could guess where they were going. "Follow me..." Magic paused for a second. Where was his father? Panic rose up in him. Sootflare had taken the pups to the edge of the territory...AWAY from the Blackshadow border. They were safe, he expected. He'd have to go and find them to settle his nerves. But first...where was Romeo?

Hemitite abruptly snorted, shaking his head. "Ugh, you stink of fear! You'll lead them right to you, you know." He warned, using one paw to cover his nose. "Any Blackshadow can smell fear from miles away. Smother it somehow, please." He paused, glancing behind him. "...Your father is checking on your... mate." He growled the last word in a sense of almost disgust.

Magic let out a sigh of relief. Now the only thing that was left was to cover up the fear scent. He spotted a mud puddle and, with a sigh, went over and rolled in it. That should mask any scent that still clung to him. "Better?" Without waiting for an answer, he began to follow his mother's scent trail. He went slower so as to not put too much strain on Hemitite, but fast enough so that they kept a swift, normal pace. Magic soon forgot about him and began to try and shove the images of his slaughtered brothers and sisters out of his mind.

Hemitite kept up the pace as much as he could, ears back in annoyance. He still couldn't stand Magic. A part of him still wanted Sootflare back, and hated him for stealing her. But he wasn't going to verbally complain. He had other females back at the pack anyway. Granted, Jasper would probably kill them all before he got back, but he could get others. For now, he just followed Magic, head ducked.

They would soon reach a tiny clearing surrounded by thick brambles. There was a pond there. In fact, this was the exact same place Mystic had come when she found out Hemitite was her father. The she-wolf herself was at the far edge with her back to them. Dandre and Starblood were sitting quietly with Juliet by the pond.
"Magic!" Dandre's eyes lit up. He had Romeo's build, Hemitite's coloring, and Romeo's eyes. A perfect mix of his daddy and grand-daddy. Starblood looked like Jasper, for the most part. Aside from having Mystic's eyes. He looked at them quietly while Dandre jumped to his feet and peered behind them. "W-Where...where are they?"
"Dead." Magic told him. He looked at his mother, but she stayed huddled at the edge of the clearing.

Hemitite paused, glancing at the two pups. He ducked his head, a bit uncomfortable around them, avoiding them as he moved to sit next to Mystic. Maybe it was about time he tried to be the father he'd never been. He frowned softly at her, nuzzling her. "Hey. I'm... sorry. It's my fault they're dead." He sighed, glancing away. This was sooo uncomfortable...
A few seconds later, Sootflare stepped into the clearing, led by the slightly limping Romeo. The tough wolf had a new scar above one eye, and another across his shoulder, but Soot was untouched. She padded over to Magic and sat beside him. "The pups are at the den." She assured, resting her head against his chest. Obviously, Romeo had told her what had happened.
