Romeo was already limping back to the den. They would meet him on the way there. He glanced up as he spotted her, snorting at the load she and her previous litter were carrying. "Mystic, what the hell are you doing?" He growled softly, aiming to move past her and back to the camp. He'd wanted to stay longer, away from her, but Sol had sent him a mental warning. It was either come back or see what happened when Mystic came into Blackshadow land with six pups and two yearlings. But he still didn't look at her, maw still covered in the newly-named Dandre's blood.

Seeing her mate was ok, Mystic relaxed. Then anger boiled inside of her again. She let out a small snarl and stalked back towards the dens where her litter was waiting. Magic and Juliet blinked at each other. They'd never seen their parents fight.
Mystic curled up in her and Romeo's den where she'd set her pups. She kept her back towards the entrance. No one would be allowed to visit today. Not unless they wanted Myst to rip their tails off.

For the first time since they'd first met, Romeo couldn't summon up happy, love-stricken feelings towards his mate. To be honest, he almost hated her at the moment. He turned on Magic, subconsciously noting his similarity to his mother. But, finding he couldn't say anything, he just snorted and moved off, stiff. He hated how stupid (to him) Mystic had been, putting those damn pups above her own life. Did she not even realize how important she was to him? Did she even care?

Magic frowned, perplexed. Her mother had briefly explained what had happened while they retrieved the pups from the den in the forest to the camp. Romeo had been worried for her. Very worried. But she was fine now. The pups were fine now. Was there any reason to fight now? Magic looked towards his mother's shadowy figure. He could hear the small squeaks and squeals of the new pups inside and his mother murmuring quietly to them. A few of the others were coming as close as they dared. It wasn't hard to sense that Myst didn't want anyone near her or the pups. Period.
"I'll go tell Starfrost that he's a grandfather again." Juliet told her brother quietly. She headed towards her grandparents' den. It was still good news after all! Six pups. All healthy, all beautiful. And Magic finally had a brother! Quite a few, in fact.

Romeo ended up standing outside the den a few hours later, wary. But eventually, he pushed forward and poked his head into the den, still having not cleaned his muzzle and mouth closed in a seemingly permanant frown now. "Mystic?" He sighed, quiet.
Starfrost lay in the warm sun, tail curled around his legs, a soft smile on his lips. He seemed to be enjoying his little nap. Now a days, he enjoyed any time he got off his paws. He hated staying on his painful legs, since age was creeping up on his bones.

Romeo's response would be a soft growl. He'd scared her half to death, running off to Blackshadow territory like that! She looked over each of her pups. Three males, three she-wolves. It was hard to believe looking at Dandre and the other two former still-borns that they'd once been so quiet and silent. Sol had also healed Dandre nicely-you couldn't tell a thing. Now he and his other littermates were nursing healthily.
He just doesn't understand. Myst thought, fur bristling. How was she at fault for caring for her pups? It was her instinct as a mother to make sure they were safe. She'd fight a bear to keep them safe, it's that was what it took.
Juliet padded up to her grandfather. She smiled. The old Alpha looked so happy, so peaceful. News of the pups could only lighten his mood. She pressed her nose into Starfrost's fur. "Grandfather, we found out where your daughter snuck off to."

Romeo growled softly in reply, but stepped over anyway. "Look, I'm sorry I left. But at least then you could take care of your precious pups. Isn't that what you wanted?" Since he no longer considered those wriggling things his. Doing so would admit that he had almost killed her. And he wasn't yet ready to admit to that far quite yet.
Starfrost rolled to face her, an amused grin on his old maw. "Where did she go?" He asked, playful. His eyes glowed in amusement, enjoying his grand-daughter's company greatly.

"They're your pups as well, Romeo." Mystic growled quietly. "A mix of your blood and flesh and mine." She licked Romeo's little look-a-like, Shadow. Named in honor of his father's previous pack. Myst had big hopes for these little ones. Just as she had had big hopes for Magic, Forest, and Juliet. Only then Romeo had been curled up in the den with her, sharing those hopes and dreams. Now he wanted nothing to do with them! Mystic couldn't help but feel a deep sense of pity for her pups, which probably wasn't helping Romeo's case either.
"She was carrying pups. Then when she started to show she Father snuck off so it could be a surprise." Juliet replied, tail wagging joyously. Juliet loved her grandfather as much as any other wolf in this pack loved him. He'd spent countless days pupsitting them and playing with them. Those days had been some of the best in her life. "There are seven little pups. Three males, three females. Dandre, Shadow, Sunleaf, Dove, Rosedew, Lilyfrost...and Starblood." Juliet listed off each little pup. She was a bit perturbed by Starblood's appearance, though...he looked too much like the Blackshadow beta. In fact, the pups in this litter were showing their mother's background moreso than Juliet's litter had.

Romeo snorted, drawing his ears back as he looked away. "Yeah, I know. If it hadn't been for me, you wouldn't have nearly died." He growled softly. But one very noticable thing about his growling - he never growled at her. It was either at himself or the pups. He would never threaten her directly. "That's why I don't want anymore. You don't get how terrifying it was to see you like that..." He snapped abruptly, turning on her, fangs bared. But he wasn't growling - he was whimpering. "I'd been having nightmares for the past two months about this, and the night they're supposed to be proven wrong, you nearly die!"
Starfrost smiled warmly at her, eyes dancing. "I kind of wish I could have my own pups. I miss those eventful times. Grandpups make up for it, but it's not the same." He shrugged, rolling onto his back again. "I hope Myst's puppies will be alright."

Mystic sighed. "Get your tail in here, Romeo. Unless you plan on trying to hurt our pups, else you can just sit out there all winter for all I care." She wanted to talk to her mate. Comfort him. Of course she did, she loved him! Yet Myst loved her pups as well. Just as much, in fact.
"Teehee. You'll be singing a different tune when they're big enough to come and jump on you!" Juliet teased. She flopped down on her side and let the sun wash over her pelt. "Sometimes I wish I could have pups of my own, though. They're so cute!"

Romeo sighed, coming in and laying close to her but not touching. "...it's just frustrating to know you love them more than you love me." He looked away, depressed. The anger was gone. The urge to kill had faded. But it was only replaced by his sadess and jealousy.
He grinned over at her. "I've lived throuh many pups, Juliet. I never tire of them jumping around. Why don't you choose a mate already?" He smild warmly, eyes dancing happily.

"Romeo..." Mystic sighed. She turned her head to look at him. The she-wolf touched her nose to his maw briefly. "I don't love them more than you, nor you more than them. I'm always going to love them and I'm most certainly always going to love you." Mystic looked back to her pups. They seemed to have settled down and were sleeping. At least, they were all quiet and their flanks rose and fell evenly. "I'd give my life for them, yes. But I'd do the same for you."
"Have you ever had seven climbing all over you, then?" Juliet asked, her eyes twinkling with amusement. She sighed as that age-old question came up. "None of the males really...catch my interest. None of them really seem special in that love sense." She rolled over on to her back. "I've got some time to choose, anyways."

"What would you have done had the stillborn I..what would you have done if it had been alive?" He frowned as he looked over at her, eyes concerned. "I mean... for a second there... well, a lot longer than a second... I wanted to." He moved over to lay behind her, cuddling up against her. "I'm sorry."
Starfrost smiled softly at her. "I understand. You'll find your one and only eventually. It won't take long." He gave her a gentle nuzle, amused. "I just feel bad for those poor males you continue to taunt..."

"Romeo...they're alive, they're healthy...I'm alive, I'm healthy...and your alive and your healthy. Can we just be happy for now and not worry about the what-ifs?" Mystic asked, flattening her ears against her skull. She wouldn't know what she would have done had Dandre been alive when Romeo snapped. When Sol had healed her, she might have chased Romeo away from the den should he try to return. But he hadn't.
"Oh, they're sweet. They'll eventually realize I'm not the one and move on to more suitable she-wolves." Juliet purred, her tail wagging.

He smiled softly and cuddled into her. "Thanks, Myst. I'm sorry for all this." He sighed, using one foreleg to pull her closer to him. "I love you, Myst. But... please don't ask me to take care of these pups. I'm... I just need a while. I'm sorry."
Starfrost shook his head. "No male is worth you." He teased lightly, nuzzling her. "You're a sweetheart."
