Mystic winced. "That's what I'm talking about." Strike one against dear old daddy. Mystic looked at her reflection in the water. Across from her, she could see Hemitite's. When the two of them sat side-by-side, the resemblence was very clear. How had no one else noticed before? How had she not noticed before? "So you've known for moons. Why the sudden interest? You do know that you can hardly play the role of daddy anymore." She was grown. She knew how to hunt, she had a mate. But...for some reason, that one part of Myst still wanted to get to know him. They were family, after all.

He let out a laugh, amused. "I know. But you do realize I'm still several hundred, no, thousand years older than you?" He shrugged. "So there's a lot I can offer to teach you. You know, I'm not all that bad. I just make people see the bad side because the pack I'm stuck in doesn't exactly like softies."

Mystic considered this. She'd heard many times, from both Sol and Soot, how Hemitite used to be like Magic. Like Mali. Like her. Energetic and friendly. "I've heard that..." She sat there quietly, mulling over what he had proposed. "...alright. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt."

Hemmy grinned over at her. "Okay. I'm glad you've reconsidered." He rolled back to his paws and came closer. "I'm not going to join the pack, though. And I can't have any real strong connections over here. It'd be... distracting. I can't let anything get in the way of my job, or I'll be killed. And so would you. Understood?"

"Quite clearly." Mystic replied curtly. She hadn't expected Hemitite to drop everything and come to Greenwood. And she wouldn't be expected to run off to Blackshadow. They were family, yes. But they were still in different packs. They had to be loyal to that. Mystic sat in silence, wondering what to say. She should be trying to get to know him, she knew. Mystic was suddenly hit with the realization he knew most of the basic things about her: she was raised by Starfrost and Sunstorm, was Romeo's mate, had three pups. Yet all she knew about him was that he had a brother named Jasper.

That's all he wanted her to know. Hemitite just lingered there a moment, comfortable in the silence. He even closed his eyes, showing either complete trust or complete stupidity. But there was always that raw intellegence about him, probably from hundreds of years experience, that cancelled both theories. He was an odd one, for sure.
Eventually, he opened oe eye to glance at her, curious. "...is there anything you want to ask me or anything?" He asked, seeming to feel awkward after a prolonged silence.

Mystic hadn't closed her eyes when she began to relax. No, she still didn't trust Hemitite enough for that. But she had relaxed. Myst had allowed the sounds and the sights of her home to entrance her in a daydreaming state. Hemitite's words yanked her back down to her earthly realm.
"Well...what were your parents like? And your brother...Jasper, right? What's he like?" Mystic didn't know what else to ask. She wasn't even sure what to call Hemitite anymore. Papa was out. Father? Not likely. She'd just keep it at Hemitite. Maybe, if they got closer he would allow her to use a nickname. Or something. Mystic pushed the thought away. "Does your brother know about...well...me?"

Hemitite let out a cold laugh. "He doesn't care. My brother and I have never gotten along." He shrugged. "To me, he's just a dog with no intellegence whatsoever. He's one of the few who think they can stay clean while in the Blackshadow pack." He scoffed. "Absolute idiot. And my parents... well, they don't really matter either. Not since the day they gave me to a human pack, who in turn, tied me by one hind leg to one of their "horses", and letting it run."

Mystic listened. So Jasper and Hemitite weren't exactly buddy-buddy. And her grandparents weren't really in the picture, either. (She was sort of glad they weren't.) What else was she supposed to ask? What he did in his spare time? Mystic could guess. So she only nodded her understanding. What was she supposed to tell him?

He glanced at her, ears perking up. Her sudden lack of questions made him curious. "What about you?" He sat up, rolling to face her fully. "What's life like here? To our pack, we just know it's better than us. Everywhere is, if you think about it." He frowned, tilting his head. It was odd for him to be curious over this sort of thing. But maybe... maybe he could stay here one day. If there ever came a time when he no longer needed to seve Bleaknight, and could run freely, without needing to worry about paying off his debt with the Alpha. One day. Maybe.

"We have it good." Mystic agreed. "It's a nice life. We go out hunting, take turns watching the pups, spend time with each other..." She shrugged, smiling a little. It was a simple, easy life. Yet it wasn't as happy as Blackshadow believed. Just like other packs, they lost wolves on hunts. They lost wolves to things like bears and she-wolves sometimes lost their lives giving their pups life. Yet tragedy and joy seemed to balance there.
"We're happy." Mystic said simply.

He frowned, turning his head away from her thoughtfully. "That sounds nice." He commented lightly, laying back on his side, tail curling around his back legs. He didn't really want to accept the fact that he was tempted to stay. It would be bad to admit that to the enemy. But it was hard not to see.

Mystic could see he was tempted, yet he didn't want to admit it. His daughter smirked, amused. Once upon a time she had been a little proud as well, abck when she was a yearling. "Your grandpups are doing well. Forest is in BlackShadow with Sol, as you know." She'd seen her daughter frequently at the borders. There were no scars, mental or physical as far as she could tell. So Myst could only assume that she was being treated well due to who her mate was. "And Juliet..." Mystic thought of how her daughter always seemed to know how to toy with the males of the pack. Yup. That had to have come from her side.
"...she takes after you, in a few ways." Mystic said vaguely.

He glanced at her, frowning softly. "Yeah, I've seen her around. If I hadn't found out you were my daughter, I would've..." He stopped, slowly slurring his words into a much more positive "Sol does a good job of protecting her. And what about Juliet?" He quickly changed the subject, hoping Mystic wouldn't catch on to the intent of what he'd been saying.

Mystic growled softly, giving him a full warning. If Myst had to choose between Hemitite and Forest, you could tell whose throat would be ripped out. Hemitite probably could as well. Mystic calmed and set her head on her paws. "Well, you're very...flirtatious to put it nicely. Juliet is also. I'm guessing she gets it from you."
