The Greenwood pack was outwardly a very peaceful and relaxed pack. But underneath, anyone could see the scars from wounds inflicted by the neighboring Blackshadow pack. But one scar in p-articular was so deep and hidden, only two in the pack knew. And those two were the Alphas.
Sunstorm had never been quite as close to her daughter as she'd like. Starfrost had always loved her dearly. But he was on his last days, and refused to be made immortal, instead begging his mate to take the role for him. She had to be his eyes now, and she knew he'd want to see her get closer to Mystic. But one serious problem stood in her way. She'd kept secret from her daughter something she shouldn't have. And now, it was time to tell her.
"Mystic?" The newly-immortal, but still elder female called as she approached her daughter's den, ears drawn back. She had to be careful about this. Every word had to be precise, and extra careful...

Mystic was laying in her den, not really sleeping but now truly awake either. She heard her mother's familiar voice and smiled. It was true Myst had always been a 'daddy's girl.' But she still loved her mother, even if they weren't as close. Mystic got to her feet, stretched a bit, and walked out to greet her. "Yes, Mama?" The she-wolf, now grown, still referred to her parents by the names she'd called them since she could speak. She could never bring herself to call them 'Mother' or Father.' For a moment, the happiness faded from her eyes. "Is Papa...?" Mystic worried constantly about her father now. She knew the day was fast approaching when he would leave them.

She shook her head. "Not yet. He's still hanging in there." She smiled softly, but it slowly faded and she let out a sigh. "Myst... there's something I've been needing to tell you." She padded forward and sat beside her daughter, watching the ground. How to phrase this? Mystic has been so attached to Starfrost... "Starfrost... he's not really..." She ducked her head. "He's not really your father, Myst."

Mystic's eyes widened. Her heart nearly skipped a beat. All time seemed to slow. Mystic stared at her mother in shock and disbelief. 'What...what do you mean 'he's not my father?!' That can't be right! Who else COULD be my father?" She shook her head slowly, not believing it. Not WANTING to believe it.

Sun frowned, licking her forehead. "Don't fuss so. He's still your father in that he raised you and loved you, even knowing you weren't his. That's all that matters, right?" Personally, as long as her daughter didn't ask over the details, she wouldn't have to worry. Just moving right along now...

"Papa will always be my father. My true father, at least." Mystic said sternly as her mother fell back into the habit of showering her with licks. She shied away from her, suddenly a bit resentful. Confusion whirled through her mind. "But...but who is my sire? Are you even my real mother? Or was I just left at the border one day, too young to open my eyes?"

"..." Sun's frown deepened, and she drew back from her daughter, sensing that which she'd hoped would never be turned on her. "...you are mine, yes." Whether this was good or bad in Mystic's mind, she didn't know. "But... I did not betray Starfrost. I would never do that."

Mystic's hard stare remained. It made her look less and less like her gentle mother, and more and more like the stranger that had fathered her. But a small surge of relief flashed through her eyes. Sunstorm was her mother, at least. "But...but what happened? Who...who is he, Mama?" Mystic whimpered a bit. She was so confused.

Sun hesitated, wary. "...remember not so long ago, when Bleaknight and those two others came to the dens?" She asked slowly, avoiding her daughter's gaze. "One of them... I met on the border a year after Starfrost and I had our first litter. Starfrost found me... later... and helped to keep it secret." She drew her ears back tight, sighing before stating clearly. "You were fathered by a wolf named Hemitite."

Her vision swam. Mystic had to sit down to keep herself from falling over. Hemitite...? Hemitite had fathered her? The monster that had taken Magic? Mystic whimpered slightly. She staggered to her mother and nuzzled her. Why did she feel close to tears? "Does...does he know?" If he did, he certainly didn't seem to care. Not that she expected him to. If he DID know, then he was a bigger monster than she thought. He kidnapped his own grandson!

She shook her head, quickly. "No, of course not. If he did, you would've been dead at birth." She sighed, resting her head on her daughter's. "I'm sorry, Myst... but this wasn't exactly something we wanted the whole pack to know. When it happened, the idea of a hybrid of the two packs was... unspeakable."

"I know." Mystic murmured into her mother's fur. She was Hemitite's daughter. Her mind was still whirling. It was obvious who she was going to have to talk to this about: Romeo. Her beloved mate. "Oh Mama.." The anger at her mother began to fade. It wasn't her fault. Sunstorm had always been a good as mother as she could have been. How torturous must it had been to keep that secret? At least it had come out this way. What if Myst had a pup that looked strangely like her true father? "I'm..I'm going to go take a walk. I need to think." Mystic looked at her mother apologetically. She nuzzled her. "Thank you, Mama..."

Warmed by the fact that her daughter didn't hate her, Sun nuzzled her in return. "It'll be alright. Things are no different than when you didn't know." Well... sorta. She leaned back, but abruptly glanced up to the tree-line. Romeo stood there, with extreme worry in his eyes. He could scent Mystic's distress from a mile away, and whimpered softly, ears drawn back.

Mystic smiled slightly at her mother and nodded once. She ran to her mate. Or really, ran past him. Mystic slowed slighty and nodded her head, showing she needed to talk to Romeo. Mystic kept going until she reached a small clearing. A tiny little pond was settled there, and a deer and her fawn were drinking from it. Upon seeing her arrival, the two bolted. She didn't care. Food was the least of her concerns. Mystic walked to the pond and stared at her reflection. Did she look like him? Mystic suddenly began to notice sudden similarities in the build, the face, AND the eyes. Most were suddle and almost invisible, and she favored her mother more.
But it was there.
Mystic whimpered. She laid down on her side, feeling tears sting her eyes. Hemitite. Hemitite had been her sire. That monster.

Romeo quickly followed after her, but slower, drastically worried for his mate. He paused at the treeline, watching her, noticing her sobs, before coming forward and laying beside her. He tried to nuzzle his snout against her fur in comfort, hoping it would help. Quietly, he spoke. "...is it news about your father? He looked fine yesterday. Getting older, of course... I didn't think he'd... go yet..." He frowned. He assumed it was all over Starfrost's death. The moment was closer every day, after all.
