"It's not...it's not that." Mystic said, shaking her head. Tears stung at her eyes and blurred the forest around her. "Starfrost...he isn't my father by birth...Hemitite is!" Mystic nuzzled her mate, in need of comfort. Hemitite was nothing but a horrible, murdering brute. "He found my mother at the border...and...they had to keep it secret." Romeo could guess the reasons behind that. A hybrid pup? And Hemitite's, no less? Mystic would have been dead before she was a day old.

Romeo had gone utterly still. Being a little older than Mystic, he remembered a time long ago, when he'd seen the green-sheened wolf prance into the clearing with tail held high, bragging about something. At the time, he'd not understood. Eventually, he knew what he'd bragged of, but never... would never have put two and two together. After a moment, he tightened his hold on Mystic, pushing his nose deep into her fur. It made sense... but the fact he was denying in his mind was that his beloved mate was Hemitite's daughter. He just couldn't come to terms with that. Not yet.

Mystic was beginning to question everything she had ever really known. Were her two littermates truly still-born? Or had they resembled their true father, and been abandoned? Mystic whimpered and closed her eyes tightly. She hated him. She hated him with all of her being. Not just because of his actions in the past. But because he was her father. She should have been fathered by Starfrost. The wolf that had been the first thing she had seen when she opened her eyes. The king, fair Alpha. Not the murdering, cruel green wolf.

Romeo whimpered softly, sighing as he rested his head on her shoulders. "Myst... don't be like this." He spoke quietly, firmly, but also affectionette. "If you let this get in your way... you won't be able to enjoy living. So just..." He sighed, knowing the extent of what he was asking her. "Let it go."

"I suppose." Mystic murmured, licking his maw. It wasn't as if it changed who she was, or who her pups were. This wouldn't change anything, really. Though she knew she and her mate dodged a bullet when none of their children resembled their true grandfather. No one would ever know, not even Hemitite. Not unless the two of them sat side-by-side and let someone search them for similarities. And that would never happen. "It just upset me to know that I was sired by a monster."

"Now you know how I feel everyday." He commented idly, not looking at her. But really. He was born and raised in Blackshadow land. His father had been the one that tortured him, most of the time, for 'initiation'. And his mother had been killed the day he was born. Of course, he'd never shared these kinds of things with Mystic. The things that would give her nightmares.

Mystic whimpered and nuzzled Romeo. "I'm sorry, love." She'd almost forgotten Romeo's origins. Her origins, as well. It would have to remain a secret from her pups. Magic hated Hemitite with a passion. What if he found out that Hemitite was none other than his grandfather? "I suppose I should just forget and be content. Hemitite isn't my true father, anyways. Starfrost is."

Romeo nodded, nuzzling her gently. "That's all that matters. The pack is already having problems accepting Malikite. What if they knew..." He slowly shook it off, not wanting to trouble her further, and pushed his nose into her fur. "...it doesn't matter."

"It's possible that Magic really could have fathered him." Mystic said, slowly sitting up. "Malikite might just take after his grandfather." It was still a wonder one of her own pups hadn't resembled him. Then again, they probably did. In small ways, just as Myst herself did. She licked the top of Romeo's head, whimpering softly. "But you're right. It matters not."

"Or a combination of the two. It would explain why he looks so much like him." He sighed. "Soot told me what he did to her and... I don't think it's just you." He swallowed, and moved to a stand. "Anyway. Let's go for a hunt. It'll take your mind off things." He offered her a soft smile, reassuring.

"I wouldn't mind that. Maybe we can see if Mali and Song are developing a taste for meat, yet." Mystic said, rising to her feet. She smiled at Romeo. That wolf always knew how to cheer her up. When they were pups, it was a game of tag. Now that they were grown, it was a good heart-pounding hunt.

He chuckled, nodding, as he started off at a run into the woods. He couldn't smell food yet, but he knew if they started just running, one of them was bound to scent something sooner or later. And he hoped he would be the first to scent it. Then again, Mystic was always a better hunter than he was.

Mystic giggled and ran at his side, keeping her pace slow. She matched his stride for a bit, then nipped playfully at his ear and surged forwards. His mate looked back, smiling at him. "Come on, slow poke!"

HE laughed, speeding up to run alongside her, tail wagging. "Slow poke! Oh, well, I'm still stronger than you." He held his head up higher, playfully teasing now.

"But who is the better hunter?" Myst teased, a playful glint in her eyes. For a moment, she was back to the little pup Romeo had first met. She sniffed the air, then turned swiftly. "There's a doe nearby. Injured."
