Magic's eyes widened. His mother? Magic pictured his mother. Pretty, charming, and yet very lethal from what she and his father brought home from hunts. No! His mother couldn't come here! What would Bleaknight want with her, anyways? She was a wonderful hunter, and could very well be a good fighter. But he couldn't see his mother slaughtering left and right.
But she would. Magic realized. He knew she would. Quite willingly. She'd looked so sad when they were on the border. As if she wanted nothing more than to take him and run. Yes. His mother would gladly come here if it meant her son would be safe at home. Magic felt protectiveness wash over him. It was a hardly a fair trade, either way! A pretty huntress in her prime for a worthless pup?
"What do you want with Mama?" Maybe it was the anger swelling inside of him or the fact that Sol was at his side, but Magic suddenly felt a little braver. One look into Bleaknight's eyes extinguished that. His head bowed quickly once more.

Bleaknight grinned down at the pup, eyes dancing wickedly. The show of bravado meant nothing to him. "Why, to give us more pups to train, of course. What, you can't expect we kidnap all of them from other packs like we did with you?" He gave a cold laugh. "No, with your mother, or perhaps one of your sisters, and a strong enough male, maybe we can produce some pups that will actually last a few months." He shrugged, moving off. "Go and have your fun, Brother. But I'll be wanting payment soon enough, and you'll have to find it somehow."
Sol ducked his head with a soft whimper, ears drawn back tight. He wished that his brother wasn't as harsh as he was being to little Magic. The pup didn't have to know the details of how the Blackshadow pack kept their numbers up. And he shouldn't be forced to think of his mother being with anyone else but her loyal mate. Bleaknight was being cruel. Though why he was still surprised, Sol wasn't sure.

Magic was properly horrified. How could Bleaknight expect his mother to have pups with anyone but his father? She wouldn't! Magic's mind whirled. His parents were always so...loyal. They stood up for one another, laughed with each other...how could Bleaknight expect her to have pups with someone else? Magic wasn't familiar with the process of mating. (He was far too young to know, his mother insisted.) But he was sure his mother wouldn't be mates with anyone expect his father.
Magic wouldn't allow it. There wasn't any way he was going to make his mother face that choice.

Sol frowned at Magic's response, and gently licked the pup's forehead. "Don't worry. You and your family will all be safe. Brother can't do much if I refuse to help him with things like... that." He swallowed, himself feeling much like Mystic must have - Magic was much too young to know how exactly Bleaknight would get what he wanted. And he was eternally grateful Hemitite had not given the pup an example.

Magic shuddered slightly. All he wantd was to get back to his own lands, now. There he would be safe. Magic looked pleadingly up at Sol. 'Does this mean we can go home?"

Sol nodded, moving to pick him up again. "Yes. Block your senses like you did before." But the ancient wolf hesitated, then added, slowly. "Unless... you want to see." Just once, so he knew what he had at home. How lucky he was...

Magic was still too shaken by Bleaknight. Normally he would have leapt at the chance to see what sight Sol wanted to hide from him. But not today. Magic blocked out all of his senses, wanting nothing more than to get into his own territory once more. Where everyone was familiar and safe.

Sol frowned softly, sighing as he lifted up little Magic and crossed into the clearing again. But this time, he had to stop, whimpering frantically as something stopped them, yelping and screaming, begging for help. After that, Sol's pace was swift as he raced for the border, whining pathetically, until finally, he set Magic down at the border, using a paw to wipe away tears before the pup opened his eyes.

Magic looked around, relieved to see his territory was in sight. All he wanted to do now was go back to his dens and curl up asleep beside his sisters. Magic's tail wagged. "Should we howl for 'em?" He looked eagerly up at Sol, happy to be home.

He nodded, shaking away memories of a defenseless pup begging for help at his paws. "Why don't you do it?" He offered, laying down as he tried to chase the horrid images from his mind. Years of seeing these things and he still wasn't entirely used to it yet.

Magic nodded. He threw back his head into a high-pitched, yipping howl. It would grow better with age, his mother promised. But it was loud enough. Mystic appeared out of the brush cautiously. She saw Sol and Magic, then let out a relieved sigh. "Magic!" She ran to her sun and began to shower him with licks, much like her own mother.
"Mama!" Magic cheered. He nuzzled her, his tail wagging so fast it was a blur. "I'm home!"

Sol smiled softly down at them, feeling very much like he didn't belong. Slowly, smile fading some, he crept silently back into the woods, sighing as he knew he couldn't stay with Magic in his pack. He would be condemned to dwell only in a pack of murderers and worse. It was what he got for being brothers with the Blackshadow Alpha. Things never went well.

Magic looked towards Sol. He frowned. "Soool! Stay! You said you would!" He furrowed his brow stubbornly. "You need to!"
Mystic looked after them. Her ears swiveled towards him as he began to dsiappear into the woods. She didn't say anything, only stared at his retreating form. Mystic gave Magic a comforting lick on the top of the head. He looked far too unhappy at the moment. "You, Blackshadow! At least let me thank you for the safe return of my son!"

Sol glanced back at Magic's call, but with his mother's call, he hid the wince. He paced forward, slow. "My name is Sol Whitelighter, miss." He barely spoke, rather submissive. Whitelighter was just a last name he used when he didn't want to be called by his family name. He appraoched slowly, laying on the ground at the border. "And it wasn't anything you need thank me for." He glanced down at Magic, worried. "...I said I would stay, but the choise is yours, M'lady Mystic."

Mystic looked thoughtful for a moment. Finally she said, "You saved my son. For that, Greenwood is in your debt. But I can't make the decision myself. You will have to come back to the dens to speak to my father." She saw Magic's eyes light up and chuckled. "He seems attached to you, sir..."
Magic wagged his tail and nuzzled against his mother. He was home! Safe! And Sol was coming with them to the dens! "Can I sleep when we get to the dens?"
Mystic laughed and nodded. She turned her attention to Sol. "Just follow me, sir. I know the quickest way back." She picked Magic up by the scruff on his neck. She began to lead them back towards the den, treading so lightly over the path that her paws barely made a noise.
