He shook his head. "But that's okay. It was nothing that important. I didn't save the others." He frowned, abruptly freezing, before leaping into the bush and coming back out with three plump rabbits after a few moments of rustling and growling. He smiled softly, but kept going, keeping a hold of his catch.

Juliet blinked. She smiled at him just a little. "Good catch." She winced as he spoke though. Those poor little pups...why couldn't she just have said 'no?'

He frowned, setting down his catch and gently licking her cheek. "It'll be alright. Think of it this way; you saved one, right? And the others are alright. And those others... they could've died in much worse ways." He nuzzled her, hoping he helped a little. "Just be glad for the ones you already have."

Juliet shied away from his affections. She was used to it from males she knew. Wolves back in Greenwood, her friends. The same friends that had banished her, but meh. From a stranger though? No. "That may be so. But it doesn't soften the pain. It's always hard when you lose someone in a pack." It didn't help her own little brothers and sisters were recently slaughtered, either. Juliet winced.

Dirt frowned, confused by her rejection of his closeness. He'd only been raised around his two sisters - nuzzles and signs of affection were good, welcome, and comforting above all. He didn't understand why she didn't approve of it. "Um... sorry." He ducked his head, grabbing his catch again and turning to return them to the camp. It would probably be better if he just left.

Juliet looked back at him, sighed, and continued on. She needed some time to think.
Mystic was sitting back at the dens, checking on her sons. Starblood and Dandre had fallen asleep. She let out a sigh and licked Starblood's head. These two pups had seen too much death. Too much...she looked back as Dirtspater reentered the dens. "Back already?"

He frowned, nodding slowly as he sat down, again at the edge of the clearing. He would come no closer. He sprawled out there, closing his eyes, completely trusting of this new pack as he slipped off into sleep.
Eventually, the silver-and-black male from Sunstorm's litter came up to his half-sister, curling up in a ball at Mystic's side, avoiding touching his two nephews. He just wanted some extra comfort. He whimpered softly, trying to get her attention.

Mystic flicked her tail. That wasn't usually how males reacted to Juliet. She probably had turned him away. Her daughter was upset and doubting herself at the moment. Mystic knew that she would be kinder to their guest once her mind was clear. Once Juliet had gone on a hunt, slept, and given herself some time to think, she would be back to her old self. Hopefully. Mystic was drawn out of her thoughts, however, by her younger brother's whimpering. How strange it was, having a brother! She pulled him close, ears laid back.
"What is it, little one?" Mystic asked tenderly.

The little pup looked up at her adorably, whimpering softly. "I... I dared them to go." He spoke softly, barely audible. "I told brother and my sisters to try to cross the river... I didn't think they'd actually try... or that anything would actually happen." He hid himself underneath her, tail tucked. "I... It's my fault they're dead... I'm so sorry..."

"No, little one, no..." Mystic murmured soothingly. She licked his head. "What happened to your siblings was a terrible, terrible accident. It seemed pups always wanted to blame someone or something for a traumatic death. Starblood and Dandre had insisted it was their fault, because they looked so different. It also shook the pups because they realized, so suddenly, that they weren't like everyone else. They also seemed to realize that they survived solely by chance.

He ducked his head, curling against her warm, protecting body. "But I didn't help...I could've done something..." He sighed, curling against her tight. "And now... big brother's all quiet, and he won't say anything at all..." Fear made his voice quiver as he glanced over to the dens. "He won't even whimper."

"Little one, that river was about to sweep your Aunt Juliet away." Mystic said, licking the top of his head. "What could a little pup like you have down to help?" She whimpered. "It was a sad accident."

He sighed, but merely nodded, stepping over to curl up beside his much larger nephews. Their warmth and comfort, added to that of their mother, was helpful to him. After a moment, his brother came out, glancing at Mystic before moving to trot off after Juliet. He just wanted to be close to her, like his brother just wanted to be close to Mystic.

Starblood and Dandre didn't stir. Dandre's front paw twitched, actually. But it did that when he was sleeping.
Juliet, meanwhile, was in the forest. She'd killed a fawn and was dragging it back, feeling much better. Hunting always lightened her spirits a bit. It was the rush of chasing prey down. This prey had been easy. But fawn's were always good as a first meal for pups. Maybe their first taste of meat would cheer the little ones up.

The little gold and silver male caught up with her and started walking back with her head ducked, silent. The fawn she'd caught didn't seem to attract him in the slightest, and he just watched the ground, not making any sound at all. It was much like his brother had described - not a whimper or yip.
