Now that hurt a bit.
Magic rolled back over and stared at her. Sometimes females fell in love, despite how they were being treated. It was a twisted dark form of love. But love, all the same. "Sootflare...do you love me? Don't lie, either." Magic loved Soot, yes. With all of his heart. But if she wasn't in love with him, he wasn't one to make her stay.

She turned to face him, nodding. "Yes." She replied, without hesitation as she padded over and gently nuzzled him, reassuring. "Much more than I... might have... felt for him." She sighed, still feeling that cold, empty pit in her stomach from what she'd told him. It'd been stupid.

Magic wagged his tail a bit. He licked the tip of her snout and smiled. "Alright." The immortal male yawned a bit and looked at the sky. "Hm...do you think we should go make sure the pups aren't driving their great-grandparents insane?" He remembered how routy he had been at their age and felt sudden pity for his grandparents all over again. If the pups took after him in the energy department, they could be all over the place.

She grinned, but then motioned to laughter coming towards them. Malikite was running towards them, tail wagging, eyes bright, and hid behind his father, amused. Sunstorm, however, when she came around the corner, was far from amused. A snarl parted her lips and her eyes glowed with a deep hatred. It seemed the similarities between Malikite and his cruel, other-pack relation had been too great in number for the Alphess.

Songheart ran past her great-grandmother, laughing. She seemed to think this was a game. She skittered around and hid behind her father, beside Malikite. Magic's eyes widened in alarm. He stood up, positioning himself protectivly in front of them. But he wasn't going to attack to defend them. Not yet. "Grandmother, have they been misbehaving?" He knew this probably wasn't about behavior. At least, he hoped it was. What would the rest of the pack think if the Alphess turned on her own kin?

Well, let's hope they didn't suspect anything. Glancing up at Magic in confusion, the much older female glanced back down at Mali, confused. "But..." A flash of her eyes and a sigh betrayed her assumption that she must be seeing things, and padded off again, head low.
Mali blinked, stepping out. "H-hey! But we weren't done playing..." He drew his ears back, sighing.

"Your grandmother is busy, Mali." Magic said gently. He licked the top of his son's head. "We'll play with you both." At least the pups hadn't seemed to made the connection. Magic grinned at his pups and crouched down, wagging his tail. Song yipped happily and jumped on her father, laughing.

Mali paused, tilting his head, hesitating a moment. He seemed to catch on, but decided it was best to just ignore it. So he laughed and aimed to tackle his father as well, tail wagging. "Thanks, Dad!" He laughed, nuzzling him happily.

Magic chuckled. He nuzzled his son in return. "I'm a dad. This is my job!" The immortal male began to wag his tail. Here he was, playing with pups of his own! He remembered playing with his own father and sisters when he was a pup.
Song slid off of her father's belly and watched his tail thump against the ground. She followed it with her large, innocent eyes. Then, with a sound that was a mix between a giggle and a growl, she pounced and caught his tail. Song heart yipped truimphantly.

Mali grinned over at his sister and aimed to pounce her, laughing. He dearly loved his sister. He wagged his tail feircely as he moved to poke his cold nose against her belly fur, laughing playfully.

Song laughed. She loved her brother just as much as he loved her. Two birds of a feather, someone might say. "Cut it out, Mali!" She licked his cheek and aimed to push herself up and pin him.
Magic stood back and watched, a content smile on his face. He beamed with pride as he looked at his two pups. Play-fighting was important for them. It helped them hone and train their skills they would need when they grew older. Mali was already showing great promise, and Song seemed to have inheirted her father and grandmother's great speed. And a pretty singing voice, Magic also knew.

He laughed, leaning back and letting her pin him. He actually wasn't much stronger than his sister. He had that cursed small build, lithe and slim. His beautiful eyes gleamed as he licked her cheek, tail wagging. "Love you, sis." He purred happily, just purely happy right now.
Beside her mate, Sootflare sighed, resting her head on Magic's shoulder. There was so much she wished she could explain to him, so that maybe they didn't look at the one Mali resembled with such hate. If they only understood, maybe things would be better.

Song purred in return. It had a clear, almost metallic ring to it. She licked her brother's forehead again. "Love you too, bro!" The little female hopped off her brother and crouched down, bouncing from side-to-side a bit. She'd inheirted that wiry, agile frame from her mother's side of the family.
Magic let out a sigh and rested his head on Sootflare's paws. It felt good to be so close to her, watching their pups laugh and play. Mali's appearance didn't trouble him. He didn't choose to be born looking like Hemitite. Malikite was a good pup, and would make his pack proud someday. And Magic would gladly bite the tail off the brute that said otherwise.

Her brother sat up and watched her, tail wagging pleasantly, eyes gleaming. For a second, he glanced up at his parents, those unusual eyes gleaming with delight. "You love us, too, right, Dad?" He asked.
Soot smiled over at Magic, just ammused, to see not if, but how he would say yes. Because if he said anything close to know, he would probably disappear somewhere, never to be heard of again...

"Of course I love you." Magic said, smiling and wagging his tail. He paused, looking for the perfect description as to how much. Malikite's appearance mattered little. They were both his pups, his pride and his joy. "I love you both so much...that there isn't really an accurate description. I'd tell you I love you as greatly as the number of leaves on all the trees in the forest during the spring, but that'd still be too small. And I'd tell you that I love you both as greatly as the number of snow flakes that fall during the winter, but that'd still be too small." Mgagic grinned at his pups. "There's nothing that really describes how much you two mean to me." The wolf now understood what it was like to be a parent. That happiness you felt whenever you watched them play, the small bit of sadness when you realized how fast they were growing, how scared you got whenever they ran off.
Song smiled. She bounded to her mother and set her little paws on Soot's shoulder. Her eyes were big and bright, and resembled her mother's. "And you love us too, right Mama?"
