Soot watched them, listening to the bicker and taking it all in without once changing expression. After a moment, she glanced at Magic, and padded over to nudge him back towards the dens. "Would you and your sister take this in elsewhere? I should speak to Mystic alone." She murmered, quiet as she glanced back at the mother of her mate. She might be cutting in on their time to register the abrupt change, but she felt the need to discuss it with her. Discuss things she would not let Magic hear.

Magic was too stunned to argue. He nodded at Sootflare, lciked her cheek, and walked off. Juliet followed him, her eyes wide. Mystic sat before Sootflare, looking composed and a little sympathetic. The resemblence to Hemitite certainly wasn't very obvious. Only if you looked could you see traces of him in her.

Once the two siblings were gone, Soot turned back to their mother and sighed. "Thank you. Now he can really think he's Malikite's father." She shrugged, acting pretty nonchalant over it. "Have you told the rest of the pack or is it a secret?"

"Only my parents and Romeo. And now the pups." Mystic replied. She sighed a little bit. The immortal female looked up at the sky above. "My mother and father kept it secret, for very obvious reasons." Mystic knew that some of the wolves in the pack would have been outraged if they knew who her father was. Being a hybrid pup was unheard of, and Hemitite killed all of his pups.

She nodded. "He'd kill you. Or worse." She frowned, thoughtful. "It's not above him to do with family what he does to everyone else. He probably wouldn't hold back, even if he knew you were his daughter." She got to her paws, stretching. "It wouldn't surprise me if it only made him want you more. But if he doesn't know, he can't take action against you. So I'll just go and make sure Magic's alright."

"Keep it secret, Soot." Myst said, knowing she didn't really have to say anything. She turned away from the other female and lapped up a bit of water. Hemitite's daughter or not, this she-wolf considered herself a Greenwood as much as Malikite did. But there was truly no way of knowing. Was Malikite Hemitite's? Or Magic's? It was possible either way. All Mystic knew was that Hemitite must never find out. Malikite would have to be kept away from the border. And Mystic...well, she would just continue on. If Hemitite hadn't noticed anything now, he probably never would.

Soot nodded to her, padding out to go look for Magic. She would have to check and make sure he wasn't going to go crazy over this new information. So Hemitite was his grandfather. Big deal. It wasn't like the Captain had done any personal offense towards Magic. Besides kidnapping him when he was a pup, she'd heard. But that was a long time ago. It wasn't like he'd been hurt.

Magic was sitting with his sister, muttering to her. Well, at least he wasn't going crazy. Juliet said something and Magic shook his head in disagreement. "It doesn't change anything, Juliet. I still consider Starfrost my grandfather, and I still consider Hemitite an enemy. The only thing it changes is the fact that Malikite might actually be mine."
Juliet got to her feet. "I'm going to go to the border to see if I can find Forest. I think she should know, too."
"Tell her not to tell Sol. If he doesn't know already." Magic told his sister.
"Why?"
"Hemitite doesn't like having pups, that's why. He'll come and kill mother, he'll kill you and me and Forest. He'll kill Soot, he'll kill Song and he'll kill Mali." Magic answered. He whimpered as he thought of his pups. Magic shook his head. "Sol probably won't say anything, but it's best not to risk it."
"Whatever." Juliet shrugged and dashed off.

Soot frowned as she padded over, sitting beside him. "Sol would probably rather die than betray our family like that. And considering pain means little to a healer, they can't torture it out of him or anything." She half-growled, ears folded back at his mistrust.

"I know. It just makes me uneasy. I know Sol is trustworthy...but somehow it still makes me worry. I'm afraid for Song and Mali." Magic replied, ashamed slightly. He shook his head slightly. "He might already know. When you look at my mother...even at my siblings and I...there's a resemblence. Small, but it's there. He might have put two and two together."

"It wouldn't surprise me if Hemitite himself has already done the same." She glanced up at him, frowning. "I couldn't tell, at first. But as you hung around me more, it became more and more obvious. You're a lot like him." She commented idly, watching him without hesitation. "Not like he is now. Not the cruel side you see. But the side he hides. And if you're in that pack, unless you can heal and bring yourself back like Sol can, you need to hide the soft side. You would be the one you hate if you were forced into that situation for thousands of years as well." It was the thing she and Forest had both denied. But here it was - she was laying it out for him, blunt and firm. He should know what to avoid.

Magic stared at her. Had she been fearing this? That he would become like...like that monster? Well, it was possible. Sol had told him Bleaknight was a lot like him, too. Years of fighting and war and molded them into what they were today. Magic sighed a bit and licked Soot's cheek. "As long as I have you, my dear, that won't happen. I know you'll keep me in line." This he knew for certain. If Magic ever began to wander towards that dark path, he knew Soot would be there on guard to stop him. Magic sat beside her. "If Hemitite does know, then he's decided not to act." For a moment, Magic felt a small pang in his heart. Hemitite was like them once. If only it were possible to get him to revert to that previous state.
Magic wondered what would happen if they somehow could. If he somehow could. Would he actually have a relationship with his daughter and his grandpups? With his great-grandpups? Magic shook his head, banishing the thought. "When did you figure out? Who I was? Who we are?" How long had Sootflare known that he was related to Hemitite? Days? Weeks? Months?

She gave a shrug. "Only after a few moments of being around you." She grinned, licking his cheek. "I've been around Hemitite as long as I can remember. I think I would recognize one of his descendants." She drew back her ears, abruptly ashamed. "Actually, when I first figured it out, I was kind of..." She shook her head, looking away. No, he didn't need to know. "Nevermind."

"Afraid?" Magic suggested. He didn't blame Sootflare. After what his grandfather had done to her, it really wasn't a surprise. She'd probably been terrified of him. Hated him, maybe? "I don't blame you." He laid down and rolled over on to his back again. That cute, pup-ish side of him was showing through again. "I always wondered why I never looked a thing like Starfrost. Now I know why."

"No," She corrected, sighing. "Jealous." She refused to look at him now, ears back. "I mean... I kind of... loved him... in a twisted kind of way. And when I kind of figured you must be one of his descendants in some way..." She hated telling him this. She felt sick. She got to her paws and moved to step away from him, unable to face him feeling what she did at the moment. A part of her had felt abandoned when Hemitite had left her at the border, happiness when Malikite looked so much like him, and uncomfortable when Magic snuggled her. And worst of all, that part missed him. It was disgusting.
