She paused, watching the ground. After a moment, she let out a sigh, turning and licking his cheek. "You're a nice one, alright." She whispered, nuzzling his gently. Her words were hopeless, and after another moment, she drew back again. "But truth is, usefulness in my pack is life. And I've already been deemed useless." She sighed again, stepping back towards the trees. "The second I step back in, he's gonna kill me." She explained, tail low now. But she seemed much more guilty than scared. "...Im sorry."

Magic felt a defensive growl arise in his throat. "Oh he is, is he? Well don't cross back, then." He stared out at the trees, knowing that deer old Hemmy was hiding somewhere. "You were born a Greenwood. He stole you against your will. This is still your home, as far as I'm concerned. And I'm sure my grandfather will agree." Magic nuzzled against Sootflare again. "Stay, Sootflare. You ARE useful."

She frowned softly at him, nuzzling him very lightly. "He'll kill you." She whispered softly, ears drawn back. "So no, I can't stay. Better me than you any day." A soft smile graced her young but scarred muzzle, and she licked his cheek. "Sorry, hero boy. Your day to shine isn't here yet."

"Where is the honor in killing you?" Magic growled. He wanted to protect Sootflare from Hemitite, just as much as he did his mother and sisters. He nuzzled her neck and licked her muzzle. "What does he gain from it? What reason is there? You talked with me? I touched you? Those would be my faults, not yours." Magic felt another low growl coming on. "You don't have to go back, Sootflare. You do have a choice you can make."

She growled softly and aimed to push him back, ears drawn back tight against her skull. "Stop it!" She snapped, feeling oddly crowded by his licking and nuzzling. She'd once had ten males gang up on her at once and she wasn't fazed, but somehow, his desperate affection was bothering her. "Say I do go with you. Do you really think Bleaknight would let that go? He'd want something in return for me, for returning you, and for his brother. And he'd have that right to accuse your pack of stealing a member of his. What would you do then?" She asked, crouched down some, ears drawn tight, watching him. "He'd demand one of your sisters, or your mother, in return. Would you be willing to make that trade?"

Magic sighed. He knew she was right. He was helpless against a pack of immortal wolves. It seemed like a horrible tragedy to him. Sootflare seemed like she could become a dear friend, and then something much more. Magic knew she was right, though. He wouldn't be able to make the trade. "I'm sorry, Sootflare. Forgive me."
Magic bowed his head respectfully and sighed. "Good luck."

"You give up so easy..." Purred a voice beyond the trees. Silky and rich with that strange accent, Hemitite stepped out, his green-sheened fur just as shiny and silky as it had been the year before. Not aged a day. "I was hoping for a little more entertainment. But since I've no use for her anymore..." He gave a shrug and shoved Sootflare forward hard, pushing her to the ground. "You can have her. I don't really care either way, I was just hoping I could get something out of this." He gave a casual shrug, not seeming bothered at all by Magic's far-from-hidden hatred towards him.
Soot, upon her 'owner's appearance, had shrunken into a ball of pure submission and quiet, ears back, tail tucked. She stayed on the ground when he knocked her down, simply staying perfectly still and waiting for him to leave completely.

An instinctive growl rose from Magic. Oh yes. He remembered this wolf very well. But Magic was no longer a pup. He'd grown into an adult, a very strong one at that. Blackshadow lost a great prize when Magic escaped, that was certain. "Alright then. I suppose this means you have no other business on our land." The true message was clear: Get the hell away from here or else.

Hemitite grinned, tail wagging at the prospect of ticking Magic off. "Oh, but you see, I am not on your land." He pointed out, motioning a paw to the distinct border which he really hadn't crossed yet. "Oh, and I surely hope you don't mind having an 'unclean' female in your pack. I know how you Greenwoods just hate us Blackshadows. You sure you want one of our toys for your mate, pup?" He purred, silky as he taunted Magic from behind the lines.
Soot glanced over at Magic, ears drawn back as she watched him. A fight on the border wouldn't be good for either side.

Magic growled again, but he knew to keep his temper in check. "I do not mind at all." He forced himself to turn his back on Hemitite and look at Sootflare. "Come on, Soot. My grandfather will most likely want a word and an explanation." Magic was trying his hardest not to leap over the border and attack Hemitite. How dare he do this to anyone! Plus Magic was still angry over the whole incident that he went through as a pup.

Hemitite just chuckled, tail wagging in amusement as he disappeared into the trees. Soot got to her paws, ears back and tail tucked as she came back over to Magic. She was still trying to process what had happened in her head. Hemitite had just given her up to Magic. Did that mean she was now owned by Magic...? She slowly looked up at him... blushing, she looked back down again. Inwardly, she found herself thinking that if Magic did to her the things Hemitite once had, she didn't think she'd complain at all. It might actually be nice... her blush darkened and she tried to shove the thoughts away. Concentrate on something else...

Magic noticed her blushing and tilted his head to one side curiously. He said he wouldn't mind having her as a mate, was that why? Not right away, of course. He would still have to get to know her. "Come. Let's go to the dens and find my grandfather. I don't think he'll mind taking you in to the pack...but we'll still need to let him know."

She gave a nod, watching the ground beneath her paws. She was limping heavily on the one leg she'd landed heavily on when Hemitite had pushed her to the ground, but she didn't seem to really notice, just keeping along quietly until they reached the dens.
Starfrost was already outside, frowning deeply. He could smell the stench of Blackshadow, blood, and Greenwood all mixed, and was just hoping the female Magic was bringing wasn't one of their own.

Magic led Sootflare into the dens and saw his grandfather. He let out a small sigh, wondering just how he was going to explain this. "Grandfather...this is Sootflare." He nodded his head to the she-wolf. "Fifteen years ago she lived her...until Hemitite killed her family and took her to Blackshadow." Magic hoped this was all he needed to say. He was simply bringing Sootflare home again.

Starfrost frowned softly and slowly nodded. "I remember." He sighed softly, eyes darkened by bad memories. "Stay with her, Magic. Make sure she recovers." Frowning softly, he ducked back into the dens, a soft sigh escaping his lips.
Soot duced her head, almost ashamed by the explaination. Fifteen years were blurred in her mind. They didn't really matter anymore. But what now? Peace was something entirely new to her. She was essentially lost in the new light.
