It had been a year since Magic had wandered into Blackshadow territory. Bleaknight had told him that he would like to have Mystic, or maybe Juliet or Forest in payment for Magic's safe return. Ever since Magic and his father had patrolled the border between the two lands regularly. There was no way he was going to lose his mother or his sisters to Blackshadow. Occasionally Magic would pick up Hemitite's scent on the edge of their territory, which would always make his fur bristle and he would patrol the borders more often. But he never saw the wolf, not once. Yet he diligently patrolled the borders, almost feeling it was his duty.
"Hard to believe my father came from those lands." Magic peered over the border at the Blackshadow's territory. He couldn't see his father ever dwelling on those lands. Romeo seemed like he'd been a Greenwood forever.

Romeo had been lucky. At the edge of the trees, right at the border, paced a grey-furred female, right at the edge of Blackshadow land. She just paced back and forth, restless, eyes unseeing, creating a groove in the earth. Sometimes, she'd pause long enough to breathe in the scents on the wind, but when she found nothing of interest, she kept pacing. However, when she paused this last time, she caught an unfamiliar smell.
Male... She glanced over, catching direct sight of Magic. She stared at him a moment, before her ears perked in curiousity. Her eyes continued to just stare off into space, however, and after a moment, she just shook her head and kept pacing. To her, he was an outsider. She didn't have to care about them.

It disturbed him to see a Blackshadow so close to the border. His fur bristled. But he could not make any accusations, as she was not on Greenwood land. Never mind that. Magic sat and watched her, fur bristling and eyes narrowed supiciously. What was she up to, pacing about like that? Was she simply mad?

Very abruptly, the grey female whipped around and launched right across the border, in a somehow natural way, like she was just coming home from a hunt or something. She was headed right past Magic, tail high, confident, like she honestly didn't expect him to stop her. She'd wanted to cross over for some time now. Some part of her remembered so long ago, when she was a tiny pup, kidnapped after her parents and brothers were brutally slaughtered. She wanted to go back to the safe, warm place she'd been before she'd been taken. And she knew right where it was.

Magic was astonished. She really was insane! A deep, menacing growl arose from the base of his throat and he chased after her. Did she honestly expect to not be stopped? Magic ran right past her and swerved in front of her, barring her way. His fur was bristling and his lips pulled back in a menacing snarl.
"You have five seconds to turn around, Blackshadow."

She paused, blinking curiously at him. Blackshadow? Was he confused? She tilted her head, blinking at him. "I believe you have the wrong impression." She shrugged, sitting down right there, rather relaxed. What? If he killed her, or hurt her in any way, it wouldn't exactly be something new... "What you're on the look-out for are the Blackshadow males." Really, what could she do?

Magic narrowed his eyes. "How do I know you're not spying for those Blackshadow males, hm? Besides...you're still trespassing, either way." He flicked his tail angrily. Magic was very wary of any Blackshadows now. Ever since that whole ordeal he'd been put through as a pup.

She blinked at him, thoroughly confused now. "Spying? What use is spying? You've already got two males in there already. What would be the point of using me?" She was used for other things, thanks. Really, what did they teach the other packs these days? "Besides, I come from here. And I want back. Please?"

Magic flattened his ears against his skull and growled again. How dare she accuse his father and Sol of spying! But the growl was silenced when she spoke of being from here. He looked her over. She didn't look very old at all, not much older than he was actually. It was impossible. He would remember her if she had lived here. Especially if she had been stolen, or ran off to join Blackshadow. "That's impossible. I would know you, if that was the case."

She sighed, laying back on the grass. Completely relaxed. "Ask around and you'll hear about my family's slaughter about fifteen years ago. I was taken then. Hemitite made me immortal so he could play with me more." She shrugged, rolling casually on her back to bat at a butterfly. She was much too casual over this. But then again, she had been stuck with the Blackshadow pack for, as she'd said; fifteen years.

"Fifteen..." Magic repeated. His eyes grew wide. No wonder he hadn't heard about her! She was ancient! Well, not as old as Sol of course. But a wolf her age should be nearing the end of her days. Yet she was like him: young and in her prime. "That would explain it, I suppose." But she was far too casual about this for his liking. It was unnerving. Especially since he knew that Hemitite could repeat history and take Juliet or Forest. Or his mother. Magic relaxed slightly and sat down. "Well, that wouldn't surprise me. I only met the wolf once and I hate him. It doesn't seem like he's above anything, really."

The female shook her head. "No, he's really not. But I can't stay away for long. If I'm away long enough for him to call me, I'll get in trouble." She sighed, looking at the lands beyond Magic. Even at the start, she knew she wouldn't be able to return. Too much change. She got again to her paws and moved backwards, back into the much darker woods. "My name's Sootflare, by the way. What's yours?" She tilted her head, watching him curiously.

"Magic." He replied. He felt sympathy flow through his body. If her story was true, no wonder she crossed the border. While it may not have been wise Magic added, "Come back whenver you like." There was no harm in it, was there? After all, she was as much a Greenwood as he.

She smiled softly at him, leaning over to lick his cheek gently. "Thanks. Will I see you here again?" She asked slowly, a hidden purr in her throat that made the question almost seductive, as she moved to rub her soft fur against his, flicking her tail across his nose teasingly.

Magic grinned, amused. He licked her flank teasingly in return. His eyes danced as he looked at her. "You will." Well, they might at least. Magic came out to the border almost daily. The chances were very high.
