She sighed, rolling her eyes. "Mirage, I can read emotions, not minds. When it comes to the source of feelings I'm pretty much out of my playing field. But I am curious. What's really bothering you though?" She asked, and honestly, she didn't expect an answer. When did Mirage ever openly tell her what she wanted to know? Never. Really.

Hmm... this time, he decided to be nice... sort of. "I've already told you." He glanced at her with mirth swimming in those midnight depths before making his words more clear. "Looking at how happy those two are with you, and how much they seem to fit in with their siblings - even with that Infrared; all siblings have their disagreements... but all these facts can lead one to but one conclusion; that I've denied them that happiness that they never had with me. All I am, after all, is a pup-sitter; temporarily caring for them, when I knew all along I'd have to leave them soon." He stopped abruptly, breaking off. She didn't want to hear all this... idiot.

Let's repeat a sentence recently used; what are friends for? Brevity was only patiently watching him, waiting to hear the whole story, when he stopped. She blinked, peering down at him, and frowned. "Where's the rest of the story?" She prompted. No stories ended all sharp like that. There had to be something else.

Mirage opened the one eye he'd closed to look up at her blankly. As in; there was absolutely nothing there. Totally empty. Whoot for perfect masks. "I thought you said you didn't like my little 'speeches'. I'll save you the trouble of telling me to shut up." He almost bit the words; they were clipped, hiding the further emotion that might lay underneath.

Brevity frowned, drawing her ears back. "Mirage, what is the matter with you? I was pretty much totally pissed off at the world that day; I didn't mean to make anything of it. Obviously your whole issue has something to do with me, or my kids, so could you just tell me?" She asked, trying to ignore how totally creepy his current gaze was. She instead watched his sides rise and fall, not looking toward his eye again.

Mirage let out a long sigh, although his creepy gaze did not change as he replied. "I'm pissed I have to give up pups I'd adopted as my own, when I know it was stupid as hell to even start to think I could keep them. Explanation enough for you?" He really bit now, eirily empty gaze narrowing, but still absolutely nothing there.

Brevity frankly glared at him now, looking up to his gaze. "Why the hell would you have to give them up, Mirage? I know I'm not your mate, and they're not your kids, but you already have a free invitation to visit anytime." Well, if he snuck in. So far, only Sterling and Reticent knew of his visits to her packland, and Brevity had gotten promises out of them to not spread word to Syn. "I wouldn't even care if they wanted to go with you and spend like a week or something. I don't understand why you're upset while you can still act as their father."

"Because, Brevity, it's me" He replied in that clipped tone agan, focusing that empty look on her. "I seem to have this innate ability to raise pups into total monsters. I try, and it doesn't work. Unless you want those two living miserable lives because I thought for a single second I could act as their father, then fine, go ahead and continue to invite me over. But personally, I reccomend not." And even still, as his angered, frustrated, overall self-hating voice bit the words into her head, his gaze was still totally masked.

She snapped a growl at the pain he was producing in her head from his clipped words and shook it, standing back up. "Fine, Mirage. If you don't even want to try, I'll tell the pups you brought that you're too busy raising monsters for them." She near shouted at him before turning and loping off. She had no time for Mirage's pity parties, and although she seriously doubted he'd thank her later for being so brutal, she really couldn't deal with his self-doubt and hate at the moment. She'd probably find him later if she could. Honestly, Mirage's emotions would begin to rub off on her. And remember that whole hint about her attempted suicide? It would not be happy to go through that again.

He let her go without the slightest hint of wanting to pursue her. Actually, the only thing that concerned him right now was the fact that he couldn't inflict further pain on himself because his back was broken, making it impossible to move. He'd heal it, but he was far from being in the mood to do so. So, he may just lay there for a good week or two before moving in the slightest. He'd enjoy the starving feeling and take the time to ponder life's deep questions. Like how much Brevity, Cerulean and Lavender hated him on a scale of one to ten. Hmm... so difficult to guess...
In case one is wondering; no, these aren't his usual thought processes. He was just feeling extremely self-hating today. And the circumstances surrounding the day weren't helping very much.

Yeah, well, put some sunshine in your step, Mirage! Or not... 'cause he was only alone for a few minutes. After about five ticked by, he'd feel a cool presence at his back before a chilly, easily recognizable, slicing voice crawled into his head. "Now, Mirage, feeling a little down on yourself today?" Reticent purred, padding around to his front to look blankly down at him.

Mirage was so very glad he was already pulling the total dead look perfectly, so didn't even need to change anything about himself to make him look totally like the crowfood he was... ahem. So Reticent, naturally, got no reply. Nadda. Ziltch.

She rolled her eyes and plopped down on her stomach beside him, sprawled out comfortably though she only solemnly watched the scenary nearby. She had promised Brevity she'd make sure he hurt himself no further or didn't die, for that matter, so here the assassin was making sure someone lived. Jeez. How gross.

Than if she didn't like it, she could've not promised Brevity and snuck off instead of watching him like the wonderful babysitter she was... boy, did he hate her. So very much. He was no longer afraid of her for the pain she caused in his mind. But he still hated her.So would give her no interaction until she either left or some kind of eventful thing happened. Because, as stated before, he'd be here for a couple weeks at least.

Eventful... Uh, no. But on the note of that first opinion... Yeah, see, Reticent didn't particularly fear her sister, but she did care, in some twisted, sibling-ish way. Which caused her to do just about everything Brevity asked of her. So if she said guard Mirage until he got into the presence of a trusted pack member, that was what she was going to do. Even if it took weeks. She could deal with no food, though she'd be downright hungry by the time she got off of babysitting duty. Darn. Reticent hated starving.
