"Takes too long, love. Besides, I'm not scared of the big, bad wolf." He teased, bounding ahead to stride beside her. However, he did reach up to squish some more water from that slowly-poofing-back-out forelock.

Brevity rolled her eyes, but she didn't reply. Unlike Mirage, she could fester her anger against him for quite some time. They reached the tops shortly and Brevity evened out, loping for about twenty more seconds before slowing to a halt and padding more calmly through some thicker trees, whisking her tail back and forth behind her.

He simply chose to follow her for now, tail naturally high, though not terribly dominantly so. He occasionally looked about, but mostly looked straight ahead. Right at Brevity.

Irritating... Brevity found the reprieve relieving when she could break away from the tight trees and run off to hide behind her sister. The two pulled that natural pose they always did when they faced a common energy, Reticent's slender body in front, Brevity's head and shoulder nestled over Reddy's. Of course, Reticent instantly glanced sidelong to Mirage and frowned at his appearance. "Fall down the waterfall, Mirage?" She questioned blankly, not even looking particularly interested.
At her feet all the pups were rather submissively silent. It seemed Lavender had drifted off to sleep, one head set on Henna's shoulder, and Cerulean who dozing, stirring occasionally, with her stout body wrapped around Lavender's and her head nestled up against Henna's forelegs. Pulse had her back up to Henna's and also seemed to be sleeping, with Chaos cuddled between Pulse's front legs and using Henna's tail as a pillow. Infrared was sleeping herself, Henna's head resting on her haunch and her own chin laying across Pulse's. It actually looked really... sadly cute. Reticent had mad puppy posing skills.

Mirage took one look at the group, then looked right back at Reticent and replied. "I should have you take care of my pups, Red-ticent, I'm sure they'd all love you." Hebarely faltered on the name, having picked up the temptation to say Reddy from Brevity. Anyway. "Hoax especially." He mused, more as an actual thought than a tease. "He's gullible and stupid enough to think you not as evil as you really are." Oo... meanie.

Okay, Reticent instantly noticed the integrated nickname thing and it looked almost like someone had struck a fire behind her eyes. Brevity winced and ducked her head. Whoopsie. Reticent allowed him to finish though before she spoke carefully slow in his mind. "Watch what you call me, Mirage. It's only Reticent to you. And I am not evil, despite what a lot of people first think. Then again, nor am I a babysitter." She huffed her breath, flipping her ears back. "Brevity's little heathens just listen to me because I'm scary and they think I'll hurt them." Isn't that just pleasant?

"Which makes you, somehow, not so evil?" He quirked an eyebrow, though it wasn't as seen. But he really wasn't in the mood to exchange blows, be they physical or verbal, with Brevity's twin, so instead turned right around and started off. "Look, Brevity, nevermind. Keep them all. Your lovely sister and yourself are better at caring for them." He snarled, heading down the cliffside. He was actually tempted to dive off... he needed the spike of pain to wake up his senses. Make him feel better. Because at the moment, he was torn between ripping out Reticent's remaining throat and taking Lavender and Cerulean by force. But, as he said, their own mother and aunt, those actually blood-related, were, by far, better at taking care of them than he ever was. He could never quite take care of pups very well in his pack, considering he was blamed for everything, punished for everything, yadda, yadda. So, despite the emotional pain it caused to lose the two, he was used to it. They'd live better lives away from him anyway...
End emo rant.

Emo rant is an understate. That was like a depressing, pained emo rant of doom and dark death right there.
Brevity tilted her head when he started away and sighed, sitting down as she shook her head. She really had no idea how to make him feel better, but she tried anyway. What are friends for? "Mirage?" She asked quietly, sliding into his mind like a comfortable den. "Don't hurt yourself, okay? And come back when you can." She commented, keeping the connection up though, for a moment, she paused to see if he would reply at all.

He paused, though already physically out of sight. He glared down at the ground before starting off again. "No promises on the hurting self thing, but I'll come back, if you wish. Tomorrow, perhaps. Take care of Lavender and Cerulean, Brevitas." He sighed, then dissapeared off the edge of the cliff. Well, one couldn't see him anyway. Although the clattering of rocks and sudden, eiree silence before a loud thud and snap may give it away.

Brevity winced, for even out of physical sight, she could still clearly hear him. She nudged Reticent and glanced over at the still sleeping pups, gesturing that her sister needed to watch them for a while longer, before loping off, tracking Mirage with ears drawn rather worriedly back. "Mirage?" She called, in his mind so at least she could track that connection. If he was still concious, at least.

Yep. Perfectly so. He lay at the bottom, right at the edge near the water. Even from high above, the twitching of his otherwise limp body would be obvious. After a very long moment, he gave his reply. "Alive and relatively well... unfortunetely." But his body was still deathly limp, and blood pooled around it ominously. Creepy.

She tracked him the way she knew how to do better, following the trail of his mind. Pausing at the top, Brevity promptly loped down the side and got over to him before pausing once more, staring down at his unmoving body. Whimpering slightly, she reached down with her muzzle and prodded his side, head partially cocked. "You're not looking very much alive at all, let alone well." She remarked, switching her tail back and forth behind her in anxiety.

Those words may contradict to the fact that the second she touched his side, he almost seemed to scream; a sharp, agonized yelp clarifying his consciousness, at least. After shooting wide open, he slammed shut his gaze, fangs grit to endure the renewed rush of pain. "Trust me, compared with some things I've been through, this is the definition of alive and well..." He managed, though the heat of his pain-consumed mind.

She blinked at the scream sound but didn't look regretful; actually, she just slowly grinned. "Hmm. I'm tempted to prod you in the side again, Mirage, since that sounded like it obviously hurt." But after just a second she sighed, plopping down in a sit beside his head. "What is your problem anyway, Mirage? Why are you so upset that Reddy got the kids to sleep finally? She's not so much of my ma-friend as you are, and honestly, I'd rather have you with me then her, when it comes to the pups." Honesty. Such a virtue.

He slowly managed a tiny shake of his head. "Good. It seems my wonderful ways of hiding what's really bothering me is working. Even an empathic can't tell what the source of my depression is." He grinned very loosely, though it was less amused and more sad. "I suppose I can be grateful for something"
