“Several decades into the future, the west coast of what was once known as the United States has long since been a place ravaged by wars. A large area of the border between Canada and Washington was swamped by these battles, and the fires of the devastating wars eventually burned out what little population still existed in the northeast.
“The few unaffected forests untouched by these wars were filled with the animals trying to escape the terror. Once-domestic dogs went wild, and house cats went feral as they learned the ways of the woods. The animals ruling the forests were at first reluctant to allow them in, but eventually, the wolves resolved to teach the dogs, and the lynx and bobcat taught the cats. With time, they became one establishment, as it always should have been.
“However, there were those groups of beasts that neglected the domestic animals, calling them toys of the humans, and would kill any that placed a paw within their territory. One of these was a wolf pack once known as the BlueSky Pack, led by the regal black wolf Blackout. The pack was made up of a central family; Blackout and his sisters, and allowed no outsiders in.
“Blackout’s main rival was a massive dark wolf by the name of Bleaknight. Bleaknight was the Alpha of a pack of wolves who were taught how to break the rules of the wild and live more like human criminals would, as their leader was raised on these concepts for much of his life. No one ever trusted Bleaknight, not even his mate or pack, mostly because, no matter what happened around him, he never aged a day over nine years. One that never aged was considered an outsider, one that lived outside all of nature’s laws.
“Bleaknight had three children, all of whom were cursed by their father’s name. No one wanted anything to do with these offspring of the vicious wolf, and not even the pack accepted them. Their names were eventually lost to the pages of history, and no one ever paid any attention to the stories of them; thinking them only myths meant for kits and pups.
“This was a serious advantage to Blackout, whose only son would become Alpha when he died, no matter what. This pup’s name was Whiteout, and he had the same ambitions of his father; to chase out or kill whatever did not belong in the forest.
“However, with one fell swoop, a group of rogues slaughtered Blackout before he and his son could develop such vicious plans. Seeing as how he had dubbed him his successor, Whiteout obtained the status of Alpha, even though he was very little over a year old. Such a young leader could easily be overthrown, even by his own pack.
“As his first act of leader, Whiteout headed down into the city, where the humans once dwelled. He hoped to find any indication that there would be something for the Domestics to go back to, since he had a much fairer outlook than his father, even if he’d inherited much of his cruelty.
“What they found there would change the lives of the forest animals forever. The city was completely abandoned, only memories and stale scents of the humans that once lived there remnant. The lives the Domestics once lived were now destroyed forever.
“However, upon closer inspection of the destroyed buildings, the young Alpha and his pack discovered one remaining human. The woman was dressed in varying layers of green, and her eyes were a rich, striking hazelnut. Her appearance would always be engraved in the pack’s mind, for she was the one that altered the way they lived forever more.
“Beside her, always there, was a turquoise-colored creature, which changed its form continuously, one moment a bird, and the next, a ferret.
“The woman, discovered to be a gypsy, gave the wolves an offer, and the creature beside her shifted his form to that of their kind to translate. She gave them a choice; to take her offer and live as wolves given the power to live as Immortals; Ageless creatures with powers beyond imagining, or to forget her and continue living normally.
“Whiteout, his ambition much stronger than his reasoning then, considered the option, but it was his advisor that made the decision. The lithe wolf, given his rank for his usually rational advice and reasoning, was secretly even more ruthless than his Alpha, and this temptation would not go unclaimed. He stepped forward, and asked for the powers at once, demanding this ability and long life.
“One by one, the other members of the pack joined him, until only one remained. Bluemoon, the Beta of the pack, was still uncertain. ‘Just what price do we pay,’ He asked, ‘for this incredible power?’
“The gypsy explained that the sacrifice they pay if different for each participant. It could be anything; ranging from an emotion to a physical disability. It would have to be a risk.
“Despite reluctance, Bluemoon joined his companions, and each was interviewed separately before their powers, and sacrifices, were received.
“The Omega, Windward, was given the power to abuse the law of gravity and air, able to walk on the wind and scout new heights. However, for this power, he gave up his defenses, and capability of hurting another. It is said that every one of his claws were ripped out, and his fangs were dulled.
“The Elite Guard, Landslide, was given the power to shift the earth, moving it however he liked in whatever form he chose. For this power, he gave up the worst of all his pack; the ability to physically feel. It is said that for him to receive this power, he had to endure the harshest pain ever known.
“The Gamma, Sunbright, was given the power to manipulate the time of others, aging them or his surroundings however he pleased. For this power, he gave up on passing down his bloodline. They say that when he tried soon after with a female he cared very much for; the pups aged and died the same day they were born. It is also said that for this ability, he endured not terrible pain, but a simple feeling of bliss.
“The spy and assassin, Aspen, was given the power to control nature’s plants and order them to do whatever he wished of them. A true power indeed. For this power, he gave up every emotion he had ever felt, leaving only the ones he never had. It is said that this was the one time in Aspen’s life that he shed a tear, for he could no longer feel compassion for the one he loved.
“The elder, Permafrost, was given the power over ice and snow, able to freeze whatever he touched, and force the weather into a temporary winter, no matter what the season. But for this power, he gave up his ability to digest any type of food, and he soon became completely anorexic, unable to devour anything. It is said that when the pain enveloped him, he only laughed in triumph at finally having the power he’d always desired.
“The Huntress, Goldrush, was given the power over the storms of the weather, her fur spiking with electricity and eyes blazing with the heat of lightning. For this power, she gave up every restraint on her emotions. She would act on what she felt; there would be no hiding them. It is said that she endured a pain in her chest unlike any other, as her heart’s boundaries were ripped from her.
“The Scout, Blackjack, was given the power over the mind, able to hear the whispers of thought from any around her, and even intrude there and alter what they feel, do, or think. But for this power, she gave up her health. She was never quite right after that, never able to run as far as the others, and always seemed physically ill in one way or another. It is said that what she gave up were her very lungs from her ribs, for she was always in a state of unbearable pain since then.
“The Beta, Bluemoon, was given the power over the celestial bodies. He could make it forever night, if he wished, or alter the moon’s shape or the star’s course. He might even dim the sun to make the day cooler, or brighten it to make it hotter. For this ability, he gave up every sense he had, so he might scent everything within miles from him, and hear a bird land fifty miles away. It is a curse that caused him to be more submissive than his rank would allow, but still, he persisted as Beta. It is said that for this power, he also lost many years from his life, making it much shorter than a normal wolf. Even if he was Immortal, his body was less than a year old.
“The ambitious Advisor, Mirage, was given the power to control another’s very sense of fear. With one look, he could force it on his enemies, making them see in their minds, clear as if it were actually happening, their very greatest fear. For this power, he lost his right eye, a weakening sacrifice, but one he grew to live by. It is said that, over time, the infection in his taken eye would spread throughout his entire right half, eventually killing him.
“Finally, the young Alpha, Whiteout, was given the powers of darkness. He controlled the blackness like a toy, and could make it kill or capture with a single order. But for this power, he gave up his sense of life and love. Never would he be able to feel the compassion for his family and friends like he could before, nor would he ever be able to find that which was sought by so many; true love. It is said also that he has the ability to change his shape, but this is only a very scarce tale.
The ones that survived of the pack, for many were killed by their sacrifices, threw away their old lives and started anew. No more did they concern themselves with the lives of the Domestics, nor the other packs. They had Immortality now, and everlasting life, not to mention powers beyond imagining just waiting to be tested. Their names were changed, their records erased from history.
It is said that only the ambitious Advisor kept his name, giving no reason but that he didn’t feel the need to change it. But the other wolves became known by other names, and somehow, their new powers gave way to more conflicts than before, even without concern for the other packs and their troubles. They lived by new rules, kept new secrets, established new lands, and were bound by new bonds. They fought, they lived, they played, they tested their powers, and some even gave new life. They were no longer the BlueSky pack. They became known more as Oblivion’s Pack. And from this new title, their Alpha changed his name.
From Whiteout to Oblivion… from Landslide to Earthfell… from Windward to Airwalker.... from Aspen to Splinterwood… from Goldrush to Stormflash… from Permafrost to Frostfang... from Blackjack to Mindtrick… from Bluemoon to Moonseeker… from Sunbright to Timewinder… and from Mirage to Mirage…”
The Plot circles the pack of Oblivion, obviously, but also includes the other packs I've placed up for you guys to play with. This story may seem totally serious, but it's only for the first episode, which may only last a few more pages before the next one, starring some more light-hearted characters, begins. Not to mention, though my name is the same as one of the more EMO characters in the story (sorry, Phanty, but it be true), I don't think I'm THAT bad. XD If any of y'all have any questions, PM me, kay? On anything; life, school, or, if you really need to, the story I've made out for you.
Take care, dudes!
