Romeo could see his mate's heart shattering, and chewed his tongue to keep himself from showing weakness. Maybe, seeing his father being strong would help little Magic. And luckily, it might help Mystic too. But he knew, as he slowly shook his head, just what he was asking of his beloved. "If you go now, he'll kill you and him." He whispered, hopefully low enough that Magic wouldn't hear. At least this way, maybe Magic could be spared... a hope that was dashed when a huge shadow loomed behind the tiny pup.
But who stepped out was not the red-eyed demon of legend. Instead, bright green eyes shone as a lightly-furred wolf stepped out. He drastically contradicted his comrades in both harmless beauty and light colors, and he glanced from Magic to his parents and back again. Finally, he turned to Hemitite. And his gaze narrowed. "Brother has sent me to take care of this matter for him." He growled at the other, who shrunk down, if reluctantly.
Turning to Mystic, the wolf's eyes warmed, and he smiled. Not a cruel smile like the others, but an actual sweet one, although sadness was there too. "You are the parents of the pup who trespassed on our land." He acknowledged, sitting. "For this, you know there must be punishment. We cannot give mercy to pups." He frowned softly as he spoke, like this affirmation troubled him. "However, you may ask one request of us before we take him. Do not ask us not to kill him, for that was never our intention. But think wisely on your decision, for I cannot break our rules. I can bend them, but only so far. For instance, I cannot return your son to you now." He was very careful with every word out of his mouth, especially with his last word 'now'. He glanced sidelong at Hemitite, as if daring the other to make an objection. The younger snarled faintly, but ducked his head in submission. Apparently, the Alpha's oddly kind-hearted brother ranked higher than he'd like.

Mystic had her head bowed in defeat. But she realized that this wolf wasn't the one she had thought, she slowly lifted her gaze. She had been expecting the infamous Alpha himself! Mystic was still wary, however...this wolf ranked high in the pack. The kindness in his eyes could be fake, and he could be ready to spring at any moment. As he spoke, Mystic listened intently. But her eyes remained on Magic. He was crying now! Crying and trembling and staying low in the brush. How much she wanted to just run over and comfort the little thing! Her maternal instinct commanded her to, but her mind told her that it was too dangerous. Her heart gave a painful throb.
"...I cannot return your son to you now."
Mystic's ears swiveled. Her eyes flashed with recognition. Mystic took a small step towards Magic. She was trying to tell him that he would be ok. Mother was here! Mother wouldn't let him be harmed! Then, her heart overpowered her wits. It spoke on its own accord. "You can bend the rules...let me have my son back...as soon as you can! He's just a pup..." She knew for a fact that, before this ordeal, Magic hadn't been any farther than the pond near the den. And he'd always been accompanied by either his parents, his grandparents, or another older wolf.
"Mama..." Magic whimpered. He pawed at the ground helplessly. He looked at his father. There were two words written all over his face: Help me! "P-Papa..."

Romeo winced at the look he got from his son. He ducked his head a moment, having tried to remain quiet, just trying to make sure Mystic at least, was guarded if these wolves decided to attack. He was trying to think logically, trying to ensure the loss was not more than it had already become. But when Magic shot him that begging look... he almost wanted to look away, but knew it would be a selfish move. Instead, he forced his body into a strong, sure position, a complete lie, but hoping Magic would believe it. He tried to meet his son's gaze and gave a slight nod. "Be strong." He carefully mouthed, and tried to inch ever closer, this time whispering faintly. "I used to be a part of their pack. If you're strong, they can't hurt you. We're trying to get you back, but if we can't..." He hated admitting it to him, but... "You can't let them see the pain. And if he's around..." He gave a flick of his ear to the tall, nice-seeming wolf talking to Mystic. "Stay close to him. He can get you out of a lot." Trying to fit in every peice of advice he could in case this didn't work out was hard, and the father of the kidnapped pup felt the hot tears rising, but forced them down. Stay strong...
Meanwhile, the one seemed to be giving the parents a chance was concentrating on Mystic. He gave a nod to her request, calm. "I may be able to talk my brother into giving your pup back to you, if not immedietely, than at most, about three months. But I will ensure he does not have to stay and he will not be killed." He paused, however, hesitant. "I will try my hardest to ensure he won't be harmed at all either, but... it is harder to ensure than you might think." There was a pain in his eyes as he admitted this to the already-hurting mother, but he felt he should be honest. She had that right.

Magic nodded as his father whispered. He could just barely pick up the pieces of advice. He wiped at his face with one paw. He didn't want the other wolves to see his tears. Then he raised his head as high as he dared. Magic was doing just what his father told him-be strong.
"I know..." Mystic said. She still remembered how Romeo looked the first time she saw him. Like any regular pup. Then when she had seen him once more, when they were both a few years older, he was covered with scars. "Protect him the best you can..." She looked her son. He was trying so hard to imitate his father's strong stance! In fact, when he stood like that, his father's features were more apparent on the pup.

Romeo glanced over at Mystic and turned to lick her cheek. "He'll be okay, beloved. We'll see him again soon." He nuzzled her, tail almost wagging a little. The knowledge that he might be able to see his son again very soon was comforting. He felt joy for what felt like the first time in some time, since seeing a mutilated body he felt for sure was his son. Now, he turned his gaze to the living pup and nodded, a smile on his lips. "We'll be waiting for you."
The polite wolf nodded, smiling himself as he padded back to sit beside little Magic. "I will. Rest assured, I will return your son to you in one happy peice." He purred happily, eyes shining with true delight that this story had a happy ending waiting for it.

Mystic smiled a little. She wasn't delighted to be leaving her son with this pack...but she trusted this wolf. She returned her mate's nuzzle and looked at Magic. "We'll see you soon. I love you." She hoped that it would not be long before she had her son back.
Magic's tail thumped against the ground. His parents looked happier-that had to be a good sign! "Tell Forest and Juliet I'll see them soon." He wished he could leave with his parent sthat very second. He'd have loved to go crashing through the woods and back to the dens and see his sisters again. He looked up at the kind wolf, wondering if he could really trust him. Then he looked back at his parents. "I love you too." His ears flattened against his head. Some part of him felt slightly abandoned...but he knew he'd see them soon.
Hopefully.
